Frank Ocean used the feeling of being a part of a cult like faith that serves an unloving God with the pain of unrequited love. One of my favorite songs from the album.

“All along we’ve known the way these conversations end. You can’t deny the shore it’s tide or sermons their amen. It’s just as well we tell ourselves there’s not so much to lose, but I would trade 10,000 days for one more hour with you.”

Mumford & Sons
Throwback Thursdays: “Untitled (Nothing is Written),” The Cave Single (2010)Originally a B-side on The Cave Single, this song took on a new chorus and a fuller texture to eventually become Mumford & Sons’ first single from Babel (2012), “I Will Wait”.
Even if your heart stops
I’ll be there to hold you up
Even as the world turns
I’ll be there to watch the fire burn

Day 2
Artist: The Decemberists
Musician Spotlight Track: The Rake’s Song
Indie-folk band The Decemberists is an ensemble fond of storytelling and creating music that invokes a wide array of musical styles and influences. The Rake’s Song, crooned by Colin Meloy, is the story of a young man who initially tries to give up his life of gambling and lust in order to marry his bride, but once he is widowed, kills his three young children in order to be single again without an ounce of conviction. The way Colin becomes his character and the music seems to contort in the ear makes this one of the creepiest songs I have ever heard.

By the end of this you all are going to be convinced I have some creepy obsession with serial killers, but I don’t. I just like music from the perspective of serial killers.

13 Days of Halloween
Day 1
Artist: Sufjan Stevens
Musician Spotlight Track: John Wayne Gacy, Jr.
For those of you who developed an early fear of clowns, turns out your fears were probably justified. John Wayne Gacy, Jr. a local owner of a KFC joint and, you guessed it, a part time clown at kid’s birthday parties, killed 33 teenage boys in a 6 year span.
That is, that the prosecution could actually prove.
And indie-folk singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens as usual cannot resist an opportunity to tell a story. Written from Gacy’s perspective, this song is beautifully composed and brilliantly executes it’s purpose of giving you the heebie jeebies.

I just wanted to take the time to apologize for not posting things for a while. For those of you following this blog for a while now, you know I started it while I was still a senior in high school. Well, this project has continued with me until now, my sophomore year of college, and has remained something I can honestly say I am proud of. I want to take a little bit of time to thank each and every one of you for sticking with me during this time, and assure you that new posts are coming soon. I will never stop my mission to share new and gripping music with each of you as long as someone is willing to listen. And as always, remember that my ask and submit box are always open whether you want to banter about music, or just need someone to listen.
If any of you are interested in joining this blog as a reviewer, let me know.
I’m also planning on doing some October themed music posts, so stay tuned.

Music Feature
Artist: Oskar Schuster
Musician Spotlight Track: Les Sablons
Months ago I mentioned how astounded I was by the evolution of classical music in our generation. Olafur Arnalds recently released an EP for free to give listeners a taste of the stellar compositions to come. Balmorhea is rising as a major force to contend with within the neo-classical music world, as their compositions continue to leave many jaw-dropped. Yann Tiersen is still composing riveting compositions to dazzle the heart and soul as the genre continues to merge more and more with modern music. Newcomer Oskar Schuster juggles the sounds of the piano, accordion, glockenspiel, and sweeps them all in a wave of delicate sound. In some of his compositions, I find myself lost in the stunning fluidity.
If you’d like to support Oskar and his work, head over here to purchase some of the music.
